If there's a brand you don't see on the site, contact us — if it's available through legitimate US distribution channels, we can almost certainly get it.

For backcountry hunting, the best folding knives balance edge retention with corrosion resistance. Top picks include the Ontario RAT 1.5 in CPM-MagnaCut, the Benchmade Crooked River in S30V, and the Havalon Piranta with replaceable surgical blades. MagnaCut steel is the gold standard for a wet, and hopefully bloody field environment. We're big fans of the Rat 1.5 for this because a backcountry hunt may require out of state travel, so the size is generally perfect to not need to worry about varying local knife laws, and it's an affordable enough knife where if you lose it during the excitement of the hunt, while you certainly won't be happy about it, it also likely won't be a major financial disaster either. The MagnaCut steel, drop point blade has the right shape and steel characteristics to excel in the environment and for the task at hand of general field dressing, quartering, and skinning.
